Due to the internet age, cyber stalking is becoming a huge problem. Some people seem to be taking advantage of the anonymity, cyberspace has afforded them. They try to hide their identity behind emails and threats. Some of these people get a thrill from hacking into people’s emails and enjoy causing trouble because they think they are safe. They are so certain that their IP address is untraceable which is so far from the truth. As a result of technology you can easily trace anyone’s location from the United States to the Phillipines to Kuwait or wherever the person is located. According to the Cyberguards website, “Although there is no universally accepted definition of cyber stalking, the term is used in this report to refer to the use of the Internet, e-mail, or other electronic communications devices to stalk another person. Stalking generally involves harassing or threatening behavior that an individual engages in repeatedly, such as following a person, appearing at a person’s home or place of business, making harassing phone calls, leaving written messages or objects, or vandalizing a person’s property”. For cyberstalkers, they may not show up at your house or leave phone calls but they will use the electronic highway to harass you because they think nobody will know who they are.

Cyberstalking is a serious crime and you should follow up and contact the police in regards to any threats you get. There several things you can do. According to the cyberguard website, “If you are receiving unwanted contact, make clear to that person that you would like him or her not to contact you again. Save all communications for evidence. Do not edit or alter them in any way. Also, keep a record of your contacts with Internet system administrators or law enforcement officials. If harassment continues after you have asked the person to stop, contact the harasser’s Internet Service Provider (ISP” . For information, please visit the cyberguard website. Also, if you like to trance your stalker’s IP, just go to google, and type in IP locator. There are several free sites where you can just copy and paste the IP address to locate where the email is coming from.

My cyber stalker was logged 26 times within 8 hours to my page when I started it. Hard to mistake her intentions considering she was the only person from Melbourne Australia logging in every day, fascinated with me. 😀 We caught her.
What can you do though? The law is so lenient. I asked a friend who is a police officer what I could do and he said unless they make a threat I couldn’t do anything. So basically they can harass you online and you can’t do too much.
