How many more sunsets do we have left?

“Keep looking up! I learn from the past, dream about the future and look up. There’s nothing like a beautiful sunset to end a healthy day.: Rachel Boston

Waterfire Providence

One of my favorite event is the Waterfire in Providence. According to the Waterfire Providence website, ” WaterFire Providence® is an independent, 501(c)3 non-profit arts organization whose mission is to inspire Providence and its visitors by revitalizing the urban experience, fostering community engagement and creatively transforming the city by presenting WaterFire for all to enjoy.” Speaking from experience, I have to say they have accomplished their mission. Waterfire is a great family event where people from the surrounding states come to Rhode Island to sample the diverse food, music, and culture from all over the world. For more information about this event, please visit: http://waterfire.org/.

Make sure you wear comfortable walking shoes because you will be doing a lot of walking. If you are wearing heels it will be challenging to walk on the stone cobblestones.

Monsters Alive!

Since I love learning new things, I love to go exploring. Luckily for me, I have good friends like Van, the owner of the Yellow Peril Art Gallery, who takes me around Providence to cool places I would not have known. For example,  he took me to this cool “monster” studio in downtown Providence where they make movie props like the ones you see below.  It is quite amazing watching the “artist” put finishing touches on their products. I admire their tenacity and attention to details. Makes me wish I was as talented as them.

Cinema Cafe

According to the National Coffee Drinking Trends 2010, National Coffee Association, ” 54% of Americans over the age of 18 drink coffee.”  And based on the ever increasing numbers of coffee houses, cafes, and  lounges, it is safe to say that people are drinking their coffee somewhere else other than their homes. Coffee houses or businesses have become a meeting place for friends and lovers. People just don’t just go drink coffee for the sake of getting their coffee fix . They are spending time doing homework, chatting, hanging out, and relaxing. One of the beauty of living in Rhode Island is the specialty coffee houses or cafes like the Cable Car Cinema Cafe in Providence.  What’s cool about this coffee place is that  you can get your chai, coffee, a sandwich  and watch independent films as well. If you happen to be in Providence, make sure you stop by and check out this quaint little place. Here’s the link to the website for showings, Cable Car Cinema

What’s beautiful about your city?

One of my favorite quotes is” Not all who wander are lost!” by J. R. R. Tolkien, the author of The Lord of the Rings.  Whenever I get  chance, I go off and wander my city, wherever I am living. Sometimes I like to go with my kids or friends, but sometimes I like to go by myself so I can take my time without anybody rushing me. If I want to stand there and gaze for five minutes at the architecture of the building and wonder how the architect come up with the design then I am free to do so. Sometimes we get so busy with life that we do not even take time to enjoy or marvel at what’s around us. When I first moved here to Rhode Island and one of my friends took my kids and I for a tour of Providence, I was in awe of the city, the history, and the architecture. When I told my friend how I love all all the historical buildings, she laughed and said that she hardly noticed anymore since she has lived here so long. I was shocked but then her comment reminded me how we get so busy with life that we don’t stop to enjoy the city we live in as much as we should. Sometimes, we just need to stop, look, learn, and enjoy the beauty in front of us! Remember friends : Life is filled with so many exciting twists and turns. Hop off the straight and narrow whenever you can and take the winding paths. Experience the exhilaration of the view from the edge. Because the moments spent there, that take your breath away, are what make you feel truly alive. —  Stacey Charter

My daughter and son always stop and look back to make sure I’m not lost because I have the tendency to be so absorb in my surroundings that I forget to keep up with them!
